Time Tracker isn't your run-of-the-mill time tracking application. I had the opportunity to sprinkle some creative magic into a client's request, crafting a tool that doesn't just mimic the giants like Tempo for Jira, Toggl, or Asana. Instead, Time Tracker embraces its uniqueness, focusing on a weekly cycle tracking method, which was a refreshing twist from the traditional daily tracking norm. As a UI, UX, and Product Designer, I had my hands full with this project, combining my creativity, technical skills, and collaboration spirit to bring this vision to life.
Challange
- Put a fun and user-friendly spin on a time tracking tool, breaking the monotony with a unique weekly tracking approach.
- Create a hassle-free experience for managing human resources within the relevant department, because who said efficient can't be enjoyable?
- Fuse the application's visual identity with the existing project management system, while still giving it its own, distinct personality.
User Personas and User Research
I kicked off the project with small workshops to play detective, uncovering the unique traits of our future users. We identified three main characters in our story: Regular Users (the entire company's workforce), Resource Managers (the master planners), and Managers (the silent observers). Understanding these personas allowed me to tailor the design to their needs, crafting a user experience that felt like a custom suit - just the right fit.

User Flows and Wireframes
With my user personas in my back pocket, I teamed up with the client to map out user journeys for each persona. It was like laying out a treasure map, plotting the course for each user's adventure within our application. Armed with this roadmap, I dived into crafting lo-fi wireframes during live sessions with the client. This real-time collaboration allowed us to tackle questions head-on, clarify complexities, and address any potential roadblocks from the development team. After a few rounds in the ring, our user flows emerged victorious, setting the stage for the high-fidelity UI design.

Final UI Design
The final UI design was a classic beauty with a few modern twists. Think a retractable left-hand menu for that extra workspace, tasks bundled into neat projects, and the freedom to create custom tasks. And to keep things interesting, we included a quick summary of time resources, and yes, we even allowed for overbooking. Because in our world, there's no cap on productivity!

Design System
In the Time Tracker universe, we wanted our application to stand tall yet not feel out of place with the existing project management system. So, I crafted a design system that was the perfect blend of familiarity and novelty. The design system was a treasure trove of components, each with various states, arranged neatly to make the developers' journey smoother.

Outcome and Impact
And voila! The Time Tracker project birthed a time tracking solution that was as user-friendly as it was unique. Our system was a hit with different user groups, and we had folks getting familiar with all the features in a mere 5 minutes. Talk about speed learning! And the cherry on top? Users spent no more than 10 minutes each week managing their time tracking. Now, that's what I call efficient!
Lessons Learned
Time Tracker wasn't just a project; it was a playground that allowed me to explore, experiment, and elevate my design skills. As a Tempo user, I seized the opportunity to bring my own ideas to the table, improving the user experience. It was a masterclass in user research, iterative design, and seamless collaboration with clients
