The New Spark project aims to create a user-friendly application that simplifies marketing analysis for users who don't work with data on a daily basis. The primary goal is to provide an efficient, consistent, and automated method to analyze and visualize trends, allowing users to make informed decisions that drive value for their businesses. In this project, my role was to lead the user experience and user interface design, conduct research, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the application meets their needs.
The Challenge
Their vision was clear - harness the power of data to teach their marketing teams how to read the market and understand trends. The catch? These marketers weren't data gurus, and the information had to be presented in a way that was as easy to digest as a morning bowl of miso soup.
My Role
As a Product Designer, my mission was to bridge the gap between complex data and the people who needed to use it. I was the architect of the user experience and the craftsman of the user interface. The tech team laid out the main flow, and I was the translator, turning this flow into a visually engaging and easily understood language.

The Process
The journey began with a mini-workshop with the stakeholders. It was an enlightening experience, providing insights that shaped my design decisions.
Next, I embarked on a research expedition. You might think that as a designer, I would turn to the latest trend on Dribbble for inspiration. But this project required something fresh, something unique. So I drew on my background in Material Science. Yes, you read that right. The world of melting metals and temperature charts offered the unexpected inspiration I needed.

Solution & Iteration
This inspiration led to the birth of a new type of chart, a scrollable masterpiece that could track a trend's journey over time. It was like watching a dancer perform, each movement representing a shift in the data. The feedback was positive, and with a few enhancements, like adding filters to narrow the number of trends, the solution was ready for the spotlight.

The Impact
The results were impressive, with the new tool being warmly received by its users. It was like handing them a magic lens, allowing them to view the world of market trends in a whole new light.

Reflections
This project taught me that inspiration can come from the most unexpected places. Looking outside my industry helped me to innovate and create a unique solution.
So, what's next? I'm excited to apply these learnings to future projects, eager to see where this new perspective will lead me. As for doing things differently next time, I'd say, "Why stick to the script when you can write your own story?"
